Sneak peek: Here's what the new Senator Puerto Plata will look like

As announced several months ago, Spanish group Senator Hotels & Resorts has bought two of the RIU properties in the Dominican Republic to mark its foray into the Caribbean market: The old RIU Merengue, is now called Playabachata & the old RIU Bachata ( now called Senator Puerto Plata, opening on Dec. 1 ) will be renovated from top to bottom to welcome its first vacationers in December.

Once complete, the Senator Puerto Plata will have a total of 567 rooms.

The expected date of opening is December 1, 2018.

"This is our first presence in the Caribbean, even beyond Spain in fact, and we are very pleased with the concept for Puerto Plata. We intend to become a major player in the hotel offering in the Dominican Republic, particularly on the north coast. Eventually, we will have 1,600 rooms to our credit," explained Marc Pelfort, commercial director of Senator Hotels & Resorts.
