BREAKING NEWS: Trump declares a deal to lift U.S. shutdown

After a record breaking partial government shutdown. President Donald Trump has announced a deal that will see the U.S. government reopen for a period of three weeks.

According to the BBC, Trump declared that the agreement would restore funding to the government until Feb. 15. Federal employees affected by the partial government shutdown have missed pay for almost five weeks (two paycheques).

Trump speaks

Delivering a series of remarks from the White House Rose Garden, Trump said:

"As everyone knows, I have a very powerful alternative, but I didn't want to use it at this time. Hopefully it will be unnecessary. I want to thank all of the incredible federal workers and their amazing families who have shown such extraordinary devotion in the face of this recent hardship."


Workers will be compensated

In his remarks, which can be found on his Twitter page, Trump promised that federal workers will be compensated in back-pay.

Earlier this morning, flights were halted at New York's LaGuardia Airport, after the the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA) cited staffing issues as a major disruptor to normal operations.
